As i mentioned in an earlier post, a recent version of Adobe Lightroom brought a new function called dehaze. Adobe say they have developed an algorithm to remove haze, which i think is pretty impressive. I went into my Lightroom catalog looking for images that i had not worked on because i had deemed them too hazy, One of the shots i found was this one from Montreux earlier this year. This boat, the Rhône, a paddle steamer, runs on lake Geneva and it could be seen a couple of times very day.

I brought the raw image (left) into the Lightroom develop module and used dehaze and a few other tweaks to turn it into the image on the right. I think it’s quite an amazing function. Dehaze is a slider found in the “Effects” panel to the right in the develop module. Try it out and see what happens. It can also be used to add haze to an image, which i’m sure can be used creatively as well, given the right image and situation.
